DOD Contractor – Workforce Planning

Background

The most important asset in any organization is its people. An organization’s ability to manage their human resources determines whether they deteriorate or thrive.  The attraction, efficient allocation, growth, and retention of resources is paramount for success. 

Workforce management provides organizations with a way to align resources with strategic goals, and address current and future workforce plans.  With an ever-evolving strategic landscape and economic forces causing organizations to do more with less, workforce planning continues to grow in both importance and complexity.     

Using data-driven techniques including optimization and predictive analytics, Emprata can improving decision making pertaining to workforce management.  Emprata is in the process of integrating analytic capabilities into a Department of Defense (DOD) contractor’s resource management product. 

Result

Emprata developed custom software that optimized the allocation of resources, maximized staff potential, and reduced operational cost.  Objectives included the following:  

  • Resource Optimization –  Allocate DOD resources to mission- critical events in a way that minimizes cost and perstempo (the duration which a resource is  deployed) and satisfies specific constraints (deployment of various resource types, demands,  and schedule spread). 
  • Predictive Analytics –  Conduct staffing level trend analysis, career path planning, capacity analysis, and prediction (pertaining to injury, divorce, and suicide).
