In February of 2021, Emprata was awarded a contract from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for Data Architecture and Design Services in support of the Broadband Data Collection program. This contract is of national significance and scope, and we are thrilled to partner with the Commission on such an impactful and prestigious undertaking.
The FCC is responsible for promoting competition, innovation, and investment in broadband. As the lifeblood of the country, broadband spurs economic growth, allows citizens to communicate, and enables telework and telemedicine – something that has become even more important during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In order to make data-driven decisions on investments in unserved/underserved areas, accurate data is paramount. To this end, the Broadband Data Collection program aims to collect granular broadband availability data from fixed and mobile providers, including mechanisms to verify the data through crowdsourcing and verification, while incorporating a Broadband Serviceable Location Fabric, a common dataset of all locations in the United States where fixed broadband internet service can be installed. The system is complex, contains many workflows, and involves computationally-intensive processing of geospatial data. In short, the Broadband Data Collection program is a critical project that will provide consumers, government entities, and industry leaders the tools they need to improve the accuracy of existing broadband maps.
To meet the challenges of this project, Emprata has put together an outstanding team that possesses the technical expertise and domain experience to architect an appropriate solution for this effort. Our previous FCC projects include the Edelman Award-winning Incentive Auction, Mobility Fund II, spectrum auctions, National Broadband Map v1, and many others that have demanded a combination of business intelligence, GIS, and analytics. In awarding Emprata this contract, the FCC cited our extensive experience providing data management and integration, geospatial processing and analysis, and algorithm development. Our past experiences make Emprata well-equipped to produce a world-class solution architecture.
