The FCC is responsible for promoting competition, innovation, and investment in broadband. As the lifeblood of the country, broadband spurs economic growth, facilitates telework and communication, enables telemedicine, and provides many other benefits.
Today, the FCC launched the latest iteration of the National Broadband Map, which disseminates highly granular, location-based broadband data from thousands of broadband providers nationwide. The data will be further refined through an elaborate challenge process that will incorporate feedback from consumers and other entities in hopes of improving the accuracy of the underlying data. The data collected through the BDC will inform the allocation of more than $44 billion dollars worth of Broadband Equity and Deployment (BEAD) funding.
Collaborating closely with the FCC as part of the larger Broadband Data Collection (BDC) initiative, Emprata was the prime contractor responsible for the design and development of the National Broadband Map and associated data collection modules. Major modules developed by Emprata include the following:
National Broadband Map – Incorporates billions of records worth of processed fixed and mobile broadband data in the form of a filterable, dynamic, and interactive map. Includes location, area, and provider-based summaries and visualizations of the processed data. The site can be accessed at broadbandmap.gov.
Filer Module – Used by thousands of service providers, government, and other entities to upload subscription, availability, and supporting broadband data on at least a semi-annual basis.
Challenge Module – Allows entities to submit bulk challenges to the broadband serviceable fabric, bulk fixed broadband challenges, and bulk mobile challenges. In addition, it provides functionality for service providers to respond to broadband challenges.
Emprata has been delighted to work alongside the FCC on a project of such significance and looks forward to providing continued support and refinements to the National Broadband Map and Broadband Data Collection related modules.
